Next on the list of documents I’m creating for my app is the user research participant screener. This document helps identify who is my target audience more precisely, and it helps me create useful questions. The first step is picking one problem from the project ideation document and writing out who might be impacted by this problem, what exact criteria can identify this person, and what kind of questions you can ask based on that criteria.

The biggest tip here: do not write leading questions (“Do you really like your phone?” “Does this make you frustrated?” “Do you like this idea?”). Leading questions unwittingly tell the other person what answer you’re looking for, and it will end up skewing the data you’re collecting.
